Friends of Section 11 I have some bad news about your blogger. Last Monday I was let go from my job of 6+ years. It was unexpected and devastating. I won’t go into the intricacies of how insurance businesses operate, suffice it to say that the market for an “older” insurance exec in Las Vegas isn’t great.
I have a prospect or two, but nothing even close to definite yet. I ask each of you that have taken the time to read Section 11 to keep my family and me in your prayers. We really need the help of the Almighty to weather this terrible storm.
I’ll continue to keep up my commentary on what’s happening in Nevada firearms activities for as long as I can and I will let you all know if something happens to change my situation.
Only One Week Left…For those of you who hold CFP’s remember that our ability to purchase a firearm without undergoing a Brady/NICS background check (and paying an additional $25) ends a week from tomorrow, June 30th. I visited with some folks at the recent gun show here in LV and they all think that the earliest we’ll see this “privilege” returned will be sometime in late 2009, if at all.
The question now arises…“What does the state of Nevada use the $25 for?” Other states do not charge nearly as much; I understand several don’t charge at all since NICS is free to the states.
With the rising cost of ammunition, gas, and every other thing under the sun is there a way for us to get the state of Nevada to stop this additional “tax” on our right to keep and bear arms?
WE MUST REMAIN EVER VIGILANT…EVER WATCHFUL

Today's NRA Alert!
NEVADA: Clark County Shooting Park in Danger!
The Clark County Board of Commissioners has placed on its July 1 agenda a public comment period to address the Clark County Shooting Park and the outrageous claims brought forward by a small, yet vocal group of homeowners whose sole purpose is to prevent the shooting center from opening.
It is vital that NRA members attend the public meeting or contact the Commissioners to voice their strong support for this much-needed shooting park.
Please ask the commissioners not to alter the current design and to support the current plan. The meeting will be held at 9:00 a.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Clark County Government Center at 500 Grand Central Parkway in Las Vegas, Nevada.
If you are unable to attend, please contact the County Commission at (702) 455-3500 or click here for a list of email addresses.
In light of the Heller decision I think we might argue that they are taxing our RIGHT to purchase arms, too similar to the discredited POLL TAX.
Might not work, but worth a try.
I believe that there is NO fee to Nevada for the NICS check, so that excuse is invalid.
The original excuse for the "Fee" (Tax) was to pay for equipment, then they came up with another excuse to increase the "Fee" to $25.00
I think the proper term for this is an unjustified TAX, which clearly singles out firearms owners for discriminatory treatment.
I checked up on the NICS thing and here is what I found. Nevada uses Point of Sale, which is touted as having advantages over the NICS system. So I called and spoke to Bonnie at DPS, who was very helpful. She told me that Nevada doesn't upload warrants, protective orders, or SCOPE program from Clark County into the NICS system. POS has access to that info, but NICS doesn't ,so out of state purchases don't have access to that info either. What happens in Vegas, truly does stay there.
I aksed why such important info was not loaded into the NICS system (after all, it could potentially prohibit a firearm sale her in Nevada, why not eleswhere?) she said we don't have the money or the technology to do this.
Interesting.
