A little late this week, but sometimes there just seems to be a lack of anything relevant. That being said, I have great news for all my readers. The Clark County Shooting Park is starting to take shape!! Yes friends and neighbors, we’re really starting to see some progress.
If you are not a subscriber to the Shooting Park’s “eBULLETin” then you should be!! Here’s a link to the April-May issue: eBULLETin
Here you’ll find pictures of construction activities at the park as well as an explanation of our progress. Don Turner, the director of the park, has done a great job of dealing with the recent spate of rumors, innuendos, and irate NIMBY’s that attended our last Advisory Committee meeting.
Speaking of the NIMBY’s, (Not In My Back Yard), a number of them made presentations during the Public Commentary section of our meeting. I almost got out my violin to accompany their tales of suffering and angst! God bless Glen Trowbridge!
For those of you unfamiliar with Glen, he was the head of the Clark County Parks Department back in the 80’s and started the discussion about a shooting park for the county. He was vitally instrumental in site selection, inter governmental co-operation, and a raft of other things that have lead us to this point. He with Chuck Musser, John Lee, and others took the idea and made it a reality.
The reason that I bring up Glen’s name is that he was the final speaker during the Public Commentary section. We heard from the angry Carmel Canyon homeowners until we all had about had it with their redundancy, “Chicken Little” rhetoric, and pitiful preparation. Glen then came forward and called a spade a spade. He gave these folks something that they were totally unprepared for, the truth! He enumerated the steps that had to be made to appease every governmental alphabet organization from BLM to Nellis AFB. The Carmel Canyonites seemed to just lose their air as their balloons of self righteousness started to deflate!
Glen hasn’t been associated with the Clark County Parks Department for many years, but his voice of reason was the perfect conclusion to the proceedings up to that moment. Thank you Glen!
Do I think that the Carmel Canyonites are through with their attempts to stop the park? Absolutely not! These NIMBY’s will fight with every dollar that they can con from their neighbors to stop and/or delay our park. Will they succeed? Not a chance!
THIS JUST IN: It seems the Carmel Canyonites, or sometimes called the "Gang of 12", had an Urgent meeting on Friday nite. They have apparently hired an attorney who will be litigating against the park (no suit has been filed yet...I'm thinking that the Gang of 12 ain't gettin' their money's worth with this ambulance chaser). Their Urgent meeting was highlighted with the same pack of inuendos and falsehoods that have been characteristic of these NIMBY's.
They are still bent out of shape about the sound that might be coming from the park (I wonder what they're gonna say when the new freeway goes in??) And they now have their panties in a wad over the flood control that has already been addressed at the park. OBTW folks, we get less than 4" of rain a year...I don't know if you figured this out yet, but we live in a DESERT!!
I'll bring you more when I get more...I wonder if anyone showed up at their little Urgent Meeting at the "Y". Inquiring minds want to know!!
WE MUST REMAIN EVER VIGILANT…EVER WATCHFUL

Those poor misguided souls have no idea at all about how sound works.
