Pot Shots and Random Thoughts!

A few things of interest have drifted across my desk in the last few days.

2008 Gun Rights Policy Conference---I leave tomorrow morning for Phoenix to attend the GRPC. I still don’t know what the agenda will be, but I’m looking forward to getting out of town for a while. Look for a report sometime next week.

Prefiled Bills for the 75th Session of the Nevada State Legislature---We are just a few months away from the beginning of the next legislative session. The following firearms related bill have been prefiled:

138--Settlemeyer sponsor--changes concerning firearms
15-200--Heck sponsor--Revises provisions regarding the carrying of a concealed firearms
15-255--Mortenson sponsor--establishes castle doctrine
512--Bobzien sponsor--establishes an apprentice hunter program

I believe that the first two, 138 & 15-200, are to allow the individual qualifying one semi-automatic be allowed to carry any semi-automatic without having to go through the qualification process again. We’ve already mentioned Assemblyman Mortenson’s proposed Castle Doctrine bill. Finally Assemblyman Dave Bobzien has prefiled a bill addressing an apprentice hunter program. My understanding of this concept is to allow youngsters to go hunting with an experienced hunter acting as a teacher.

None of these prefiled bills are currently available for us to examine, but when they are we’ll let you know.

Fact checkers can’t get it right---My good friend Elizabeth Crum over at “E!! The True Conservative Story” put me onto this one. Over at National Review Jim Geraghty provides a fact check on the “fact checkers” concerning the NRA’s attack on Obama’s record on guns. Read this interesting article HERE. It basically proves that the NRA got it right!

Can you hear me now?---The Las Vegas Sun reported today on a lawsuit filed by a former Channel 13 reporterette, Christina Brown. Ms. Brown is suing the Las Vegas Metro Police Department because they let her shoot some of their semi-auto rifles back in 2006. You just got to read THIS!

I can think of a bunch of snappy comments on this woman’s claim, but as I’m a tinnitus sufferer myself, I can relate to what she’s going through. I can’t relate to her methods of relief, however. There is no cure for tinnitus and no amount of money will allow her to hear as she did before the event. Whether shooting “more than 50 rounds” of .223 with muff type hearing protection lead to her tinnitus will be up to a jury to decide, I guess.

The Choice Is Clear!!

As I’ve been sitting home, still not yet employed, I’ve been listening to talk radio a lot. I’ve always been a big fan of Rush and Sean, not so much on Savage and a couple of others. Since the Republican Convention I’ve heard Obama and Biden make snide remarks about McCain’s choice for Vice President, Sarah Palin, and watched her attacked by the likes of NBC, CBS, ABC, and their ilk on cable.

Obama and Biden are confirmed anti gun, anti freedom Democrats that just can’t get their heads around the fact that there is a woman, a Republican woman at that, who has more credibility with most men than they do! As we all know Obama is the pick of Oprah! He is lavished with praise from the Eastern liberal press and media. But he ain’t the pick of those of us who are more interested in Guns and Ammo than the New York Times!

Sarah Palin grew up in Alaska and all that entails. She learned to hunt and shoot as a matter of her culture just like we did. She has the same moral center that we grew up with and that just pisses off the little girl Democrats who are more concerned with cow farts than freedom!

If you think that a community activist and a Delaware nut case are better choices for your freedom then do the research. Check out the NRA’s web site GunBanObama.com

What A Week!!

Well the GOP had their convention this past week and we watched with enthusiasm. Unfortunately I didn’t hear one word in support of the Second Amendment and increasing our gun rights. If it was there, then I missed it.

Of course the Republicans do have a very strong pro-Second Amendment plank in their platform, see page 51 of the GOP platform HERE. Additionally Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin is a lifetime member of the NRA and avid hunter. Both of these trump the Obama/Biden anti-gun records by a huge margin. I only wish that John McCain were more on our side. No matter, our Second Amendment and Section 11 rights will only be safe in the hands of the Republicans regardless what Obama/Biden may say. Their records speak for themselves.

Speaking of Palin, we were like millions of others on Wednesday night watching a new star in the political galaxy. I haven’t been this impressed with a candidate since Ronald Reagan! My wife has formed a fan club of one for her!! Here’s a new license plate that my Aunt Sherrie sent me, just too cool.

CCW Meeting…Don’t forget that this Wednesday, 9/10, there will be a public forum conducted by the Nevada Sheriff’s and Chief’s Association. It will be at 1:30 in the Grant Sawyer Building, room 4401 here in Las Vegas and will be close circuit broadcast to Carson City. Additionally it is supposed to be live on the Internet as well. I urge all Concealed Firearms Permit holders to attend. We need to ask if they are going to get our CFP background check to comply so that it will not be necessary to get a NICS/Brady background check when we purchase new firearms. BATFE’s ruling in June has pissed off every CFP permit holder that I know.

Just a reminder, NSCA “tried” to get legislation passed that would have satisfied BATFE’s ruling last session. Remember, however, that they wanted MASSIVE increases in fees along with it. That was totally unacceptable! Hopefully they have a better idea this time. (Hold onto your wallet, my bet is that they—especially Clark County Sherrif Doug Gillespie—still want to increase fees!)

Gun Owners of Nevada...There is a new organization, at least new to me, that contacted me this week. GONV is an affiliate of The Gun Owners of America. They have a very impressive website and I urge you to check them out. These are the kind of folks we need when January rolls around and the Legislature is back in session. Here's the link to their website: GONV

My Birthday…Thanks to all that sent messages! It was so appreciated! I only wish that one of you had sent me a job! Yep, I’m still looking. A couple of good prospects have ended with them making decisions to hire someone else—that’s their loss! Please keep Cheryl and me in your prayers. We know that the Lord will provide.

The Gun Rights Policy Conference is Coming…I’m attending my first GRPC this month (9/26-9/28). It’s to be held in Phoenix and I hope to learn a lot. I’ve cashed in all of my American Express Membership Rewards points for the hotel. I’ll have to drive my wife’s mini van, though. My Ram 1500 is a gas pig and I don’t think I could afford the gas if I had to take it. For more info on the GRPC click HERE. This year’s theme is “Elect Freedom” and there is supposed to be an outstanding list of speakers and seminars. I’m enthused about this!!
